The Beyond the Frame photography competition is open to students aged 11 to 19 both in the UK and around the world, who are in full-time Secondary or Further Education. You do not need to be studying Photography or a creative subject in order to enter.

This year’s competition award categories are:
  • 11-15 age category
  • 16-19 age category
  • ‘People’ – For people-focused imagery, such as portraiture, fashion or editorial.
  • ‘Places’ – For imagery such as culture, nature, architecture, or landscape photography.
  • ‘Things’ – For imagery such as still life, food/product, lifestyle or fine art photography.

Entrants can submit up to three photographs and one piece of moving image (up to one minute in length). They can be a series on the same theme or independent images. They must all be your own work.

Entries for Beyond the Frame 2024 are now CLOSED.

Last year’s competition received over 650 entries, with 50 of these student making it to the final shortlist. The shortlisted entries from the 2023 competition were displayed in an awards exhibition at Norwich University of the Arts between Thursday 30 March and Saturday 1 April 2023. Their work can be viewed online on the 2023 Shortlist page.
